Review on Zest at Lime Square
A cracking waterfront setting in Reading's beautifully landscaped Green Park, just behind the Madejski Stadium and next to the Ecotricity wind turbine, the brilliantly atmospheric Zest at Lime Square, (formerly Lsq2 bar/brasserie) is a real asset to the local restaurant scene.
It's a cool, smart and contemporary chill-out venue with swathes of glass, solid oak floors, warm wood tables and comfortable hide chairs. The food is a lively mix of dishes ladled out of the global melting pot, and the kitchen moves quickly from oysters Kilpatrick and char-grilled Hampshire steaks into the realms of 'drunken' Madagascan tiger prawns with Asian vegetable blini and Cantonese XO sauce or adobado braised shoulder of lamb with pancetta cabbage and fennel crumble.
Meat and vegetarian tapas plates are great for grazing and sharing, and there are further delights for sweet-toothed visitors: finish with pecan praline cup with cherries and Mascarpone or meringue Toblerone soufflé. Otherwise check out the special 'cocktail desserts' (Tropical Tango is Midori and Malibu blended with fresh mango, banana, pineapple juice and ice cream). You can also call in for a drink and some groovy nibbles at the bar. Zest at Lime Square offers free parking for guests on football match days at the nearby Stadium.
