Review on Suan Thai
Opened in 1997, Andy and Jirasin Brown's likeable restaurant has become a firm favourite with Romsey's restaurant crowd over the years. The place is noted for its genuine atmosphere and authentic Thai feel, with ethnic prints on the walls and waitresses in full national costume.
The menu runs to almost 100 dishes covering all the familiar bases of the cuisine, and individual items are helpfully flagged to give an indication of 'chilli heat'. Many ingredients are sourced direct from Thailand, and the kitchen puts them to good use.
Satays, fishcakes and spare ribs figure among the appetisers, and the menu also takes in hot-and-sour soups, some unusual salads (try yum kai dao – fried crispy eggs in a fiery dressing), curries and stir-fries. Fixed-price menus provide an easy way through the whole repertoire.
