Review on The Ship Inn
The Ship Inn, or as it is known locally, The Famous Ship Inn on Sandgate's High Street and sea front opened in 2010 a new restaurant which overnight became the hottest ticket in town and although The Ship has been Sandgate's local for over 200 years, it is set to become even more famous. No grand opening as yet, in fact there are still things to finish after two years of development but it's a real charmer with stunning sea views, its chic interior and a spectacular roof terrace for al fresco dining.
Expect a short menu of locally caught fish and other produce. You may kick off with scallops with a pea puree and crispy cured ham or prawn and crab tian with avocado and tomato confit before moving on to pan fried skate wing with lemon butter, fresh ale battered cod served with chips and tartare sauce, tagliatelle with fresh asparagus, crab meat chilli and lemon or pan roasted chicken breast stuffed with mushroom pate, wrapped in cured ham and served with fresh asparagus and fondant potatoes. Finish off with creme brule or banoffie pie. Choose from the short wine list or work through the selection of real ales.
