Review on The Duke's Head

Glorious Somerleyton Estate, with its stately Hall and 14 acres of fabulous gardens is now home to all manner of tourist attractions, corporate events, weddings and the like. Fritton Lake is one of the loveliest stretches of water in Suffolk and the whole set-up also includes a hotel, woodland holiday lodges and the Duke's Head pub.

The setting, down the the river, is an irresistible attraction in good weather, when crowds pack the sun-drenched terrace. Inside a simply furnished dining room is tacked onto the bar, and family-friendly food is served throughout the day. Expect anything from lunchtime sandwiches, ploughman's and burgers to more ambitious potted smoked mackerel, Moroccan lamb couscous and Italian meatballs with spaghetti, followed by rhubarb crumble or chocolate soufflé cake.

Excellent locally brewed real ales are on draught, and the pub now has an separate barn for private events, live music and cabaret - as part of Club Uniquity.

    Disappointing Visit

We have used this pub before, and previously really enjoyed the food. My sister lives locally, so a great place to meet up for family occasions.
However today has been a catalogue of disasters...one of our starters was returned, cooked to a frazzle.
Roast pork was chewy, and my burger was so dry it was like eating cardboard. When I mentioned it to the waitress, I was told they had to fully cook burgers! Well ok, but there is a difference between cooked and dried out..not a scrap of moisture left in it, waste of good food! We were not alone in returning our food today either.
If you don't want food, the staff, location and ambiance is good.
Will not be eating there again until they have a change of chef, a great shame!
