Review on Sasso Restaurant
Sasso Restaurant formerly known as Conti is located in the village of Disley on the very edge of the Peak District. Locally renowned for its friendly atmosphere, it continues to win friends with its fine Italian cuisine served in a relaxed atmosphere. Set over two floors, the lounge and bar are on the first floor, perfect for pre or post dinner drinks. Tables are well laid in the elegant dining room featuring exposed brick walls and a high raftered ceiling, overlooked by an open kitchen. During the summer there's the bonus of a terrace for al fresco dining, with heaters if it turns a little chilly.
The kitchen uses fresh carefully sourced ingredients for a menu that is a happy mix of old-style favourites and more contemporary dishes. There's fritto misto, fried calamari, king prawns, white bait, breaded goujons and chef sauce or carpaccio, thinly sliced peppered fillet with rocket and parmesan, lemon juice and parsley dressing to start. Main courses usher in vitello saltimbocca, veal escalopes with Parma ham, cooked in white wine, butter, lemon and sage or branzino valentino, grilled fillets of sea bass on a bed of fresh wilted spinach, with olive oil and lemon juice. There's also a succulent selection of steak from the Grill, sourced from local cattle reared on grass farms in and around the Macclesfield area, together with a selection of pizzas, pastas and risottos. Close the show with tiramisu or baked limoncello cheesecake and candied lemons.
Service is efficient and welcoming and there's a well-priced Italian wine list to complement the dishes.
