Review on Billesley Manor Hotel, Stuart Restaurant
This beautifully preserved Elizabethan manor house will forever be linked with William Shakespeare, and it’s said that the bard wrote parts of ‘As You Like It’ in the old library. The hotel is in a lovely spot, surrounded by 11 acres of grounds (complete with immaculately manicured topiary, tennis courts and a croquet lawn) just a short drive from the tourist bustle of Stratford.
The majestic interior oozes history, whether you are chilling out in one of the lounges or enjoying a meal in the splendid oak-panelled Stuart Restaurant overlooking the gardens and ornamental fountain.
Skilfully crafted modern food is the order of the day, and dinner might open with â€" say â€" tian of braised pork belly with roast apple purée or ravioli of tiger prawns and salmon. To follow, you might be tempted by Gressingham duck breast on parsnip purée with confit leg, mash and Cassis or fillet of brill on risotto nero with crispy squid and Cointreau sabayon, before rounding it all off with caramelised banana bavarois.
Alternatively, enjoy afternoon tea or a glass of Champagne out on the terrace, or relax indoors with one of the best club sandwiches around. A special ‘healthy eating menu’ is also available in the hotel’s Spa bistro.
