Review on Angel Inn
The Angel Inn is a substantial, neat-looking country inn complete a big paved patio for alfresco meals. Inside, there's a serious of linked rooms on different levels, including a high-ceilinged bar and a sizeable restaurant. Everything is spick-and-span.
Regular consignments of fish from Devon are listed on blackboards - perhaps seared Brixham scallops with sweet chilli jam or roast monkfish with basil mash and lentil cream sauce. The printed menu also homes in on unpretentious modern dishes like Parma ham with celeriac rémoulade and truffle oil, roast rump of lamb with slow-roast potatoes, confit tomatoes and sweet onion jus, or Gressingham duck breast with mango and red onion salsa.
A separate board of desserts could feature things like caramelised orange brûlée with orange tuile or mixed berry gratin with homemade strawberry ice cream. The home-baked bread is excellent stuff, and there are plenty of classic and modish wines on the well chosen list.
