Review on Marco Pierre White Rudloe Arms
Marco Pierre White's Rudloe Arms stands amid 14 acres of beautiful gardens and formal lawns, affording stunning views across the Box Valley towards Bath. Just a short drive from the historic market town of Chippenham, this ivy clad Victorian country inn has been refurbished to a high standard whilst retaining some of its original features. Guests can enjoy the quirky bar and games room filled with vintage pool tables and table football. A giant wooden model aeroplane hangs from the ceiling, there's also large pieces of neon wall art from Blackpool Pleasure Beach and an iconic Michelin man tyre statue shows off the culinary intentions of the restaurant.
Relaxed meals take place in the elegant dining room overlooking the garden, tables are laid with crisp linen, flowers and candles, while the soft green walls are lined with an eclectic display of pictures of Marco Pierre White. The kitchen delivers a high standard of food with many ingredients sourced locally, kicking off with brandade of fine quality smoked mackerel served with fresh horseradish and Melba toast, before a main course of confit of lamb with herb crust and flageluet beans a la crème. For a sweet finale there's warm chocolate brownie and vanilla ice cream or Cambridge burnt cream, Jamaican mess, banana and caramel.
The hotel offers 12 character rooms in the main house, as well as 28 modern contemporary rooms in the adjacent Treetops building, and given its scenic setting, it's no surprise that Rudloe Arms is a popular wedding venue.
