Review on The Dog & Badger
Located a short walk from the River Thames, Nick and Jane Robinson's The Dog & Badger can be found in the upmarket village of Medmenham between Marlow and Henley-on-Thames. The only remaining riverside village in Buckinghamshire, the interiors of the building have undergone a striking refurbishment with traditional features blending with contemporary elements, creating a welcoming and fashionable environment.
Guests can opt for a drink and snack at the stunning speedboat-inspired Riva Bar or head into the chic restaurant with its wooden beams and vaulted ceiling. Walls are painted a sumptuous deep purple, and a cosy log fire log fire adds to the inviting ambience. Should you wish to stay overnight there's six stylish bedrooms in the picturesque Grade II listed Gillmans Cottage next door.
Sam Walton the former sous chef of Bibendum in South Kensington heads the kitchen, and he proposes a seasonal British menu with global influences. The kitchen taps into locally sourced ingredients wherever possible, with many of the vegetables and herbs grown in their own garden. Tempura prawns with green Thai curry mayonnaise might open the show, before a main course of Salt Marsh lamb, coffee baked heritage carrots, Aura potatoes and cucumber raita. For those who prefer fish there's roast cod fillet, parsley crust, preserved lemon mayonnaise, pink fir apple potatoes and wood roasted leeks. Desserts are wickedly indulgent creations in the shape of iced peanut praline parfait paired with buttermilk sorbet or sticky toffee pudding, caramel sauce and clotted cream.
Backing up the food, is a vast and well conceived wine list of 400 bins, with many selections available by the glass, over 30 Gins and tasty cocktails.
