Review on Matt Healy at The Foundry
The Foundry a Leeds dining institution since 2005 as a new chef patron at the helm, Matt Healy a runner-up in Masterchef: The Professionals in 2016, launched his first solo venture in May 2018. Located in a lovely Grade II listed building in the Saw Mill area of Leeds, it's located just five minutes from Leeds train station. At the entrance the blue neon light tells diners they are about to enjoy Food to Swear By, while inside the room is flooded with light from the beautiful arched windows, and features a contemporary décor with exposed brick walls and stylish turquoise chairs set against well-spaced tables.
Matt Healy at the Foundry offers a relaxed ambience equally suited to a drink on the terrace or a leisurely meal. The kitchen looks to ultra-fresh seasonal ingredients sourced locally for a menu of small and large plates. On the carte you might see torched mackerel, beets, apple and radish before moving on to bavette steak, king oyster mushroom, burnt shallot and bone marrow or from the sea hake, confit fennel and charred clementine purée. For afters enjoy the creme brulee doughnut or maybe choose the sticky toffee pudding paired with vanilla ice cream.
