Review on Titu
Occupying a prominent corner position overlooking the 18th century Shepherd Market, Titu is located just five minutes walk from Green Park station in the heart of Mayfair. A pared back space, the diminutive restaurant seats just 16 diners on duck blue banquettes set around the edge of the restaurant, with vintage Japanese posters displayed on the walls and a small marble-topped bar dispensing drinks.
This is the first restaurant from New Zealand Chef Jeff Tyler, who has climbed the culinary ladder in esteemed restaurants such as Roka, The Mandarin Oriental in Marrakech and Barcelona and more recently as Head Chef at the Russian owned Novikov, also located in Mayfair. Tyler is showcasing very tasty handmade gyozas, a type of Japanese dumpling, alongside Asian-inspired salads and snacks. Among the snacks and salads look for shitake rice balls and a soft shell crab salad, while the gyozas come with offerings such as chicken and cheese or spicy prawn. There's also juicy veal ribs or the Titu burger with the option of adding bacon. The choice of desserts includes a Green Tea crème brulé or a chocolate fondant.
To complement the dishes there's a concise wine list, cocktails like Japanese Slipper, Japanese beers and sake.
