Review on Caravan Fitzrovia
Having scored a long running hit with their restaurants in Exmouth Market, King's Cross, Bankside and Bloomberg Arcade, Caravan has headed to Fitzrovia on Great Portland Street for their latest venture. Opened in July 2018, it occupies the former premises that housed the BBC Radio 1 headquarters in Yalding House.
The expansive 600 square foot space features a large bar that runs through the three dining rooms, divided by a series of pink brick lattice screens. There's also a dedicated Caravan-to go area which is handy for office workers. Caravan has industrial-esque interiors within a palette of warm clay pink tones, providing a warmth to the north-facing site. Down in the basement there's the Record Room, a nod to the building's past, it can be booked for private dining and party events with your own dedicated barman.
The restaurant is a relaxed all-day dining concept which runs throughout the day starting with breakfast. Amongst the small plates look for dishes like pan-steamed sea bass and cod dumplings, xo sauce and peanuts or broken lamb meatballs, chermoula, fried aubergine, tahini and pickled red onion. When it comes to large plates you might see cod, samphire, new potatoes, peas and mint or from the land Iberico pork pluma schnitzel, fried duck egg, manchego and sage, or you could opt for one of their tasty pizzas. As for dessert, check out the chocolate maple and coconut tart, almond milk sorbet, nibbed almonds and cacao or the honey cake, roasted peach and crème fraiche ice cream.
The wine list is an international slate featuring a good spread across the world, as well as local beers, signature cocktails and their standout coffee.
