Review on Blacklock Shoreditch
Ex-Hawksmoor alumni Graham Ker has added a third string to his bow with his largest opening to date, Blacklock Shoreditch was launched in October 2018 and joins siblings in Soho and the City. This latest venture occupies the former premises of Rivington Grill, an old furniture factory set in the heart of London's East End. It's a pared back space with exposed brick walls, concrete flooring and a big raftered ceiling.
A modern version of a British chop house, the culinary focus is on the highest quality affordable meat, sourced from award-winning farmer and butcher Philip Warren in Cornwall, all cooked over charcoal on their famous Blacklock Foundry iron. Kick off with starters in the shape of pig's head on toast with gravy or grilled squid and bone marrow before moving on to the main event of chops, which come either skinny, big or off the bone. There's a tempting selection of sides to go with them like 10-hour ash-roasted sweet potatoes, beef dripping chips or charred courgettes, chicory and stilton. Also make sure to check out their sell-out Sunday roasts. For a sweet-toothed finale, vanilla cheesecake is served tableside out of a tray.
Blacklock Shoreditch have teamed up with the renowned Greenwich Village speakeasy, Slowly Shirley to curate their cocktails, which can be served with delicious bar snacks like Yorkshire puddings filled with melted black pudding topped with gravy.
