Review on Tast Cuina Catalana Restaurant
Located in the heart of Manchester, Tast Cuina Catalana Restaurant is an exciting new addition to King Street, an upmarket shopping area once described as the Bond Street of the north. The 120-cover restaurant is a joint venture between Pep Guardiola, Manager of Premier League club Manchester City, together with his colleagues Txiki Begiristain and Ferran Soriano, and the Fazenda group.
Laid out over three floors, the contemporary interiors have been designed by Barcelona based Nordicthink featuring an informal dining and bar area on the ground floor, a first-floor dining room and private dining rooms on the second floor serving a tasting menu. The main dining room is an unfussy affair with large windows overlooking the street and an open kitchen allowing diners to watch the chefs put on their culinary show.
The kitchen looks to Catalonia for inspiration and it's in the accomplished hands of Executive Chef Paco Pérez, holder of two Michelin stars at Miramar in Llançà and Enoteca at the Arts Hotel in Barcelona, where he has a total of six restaurants. He has also been awarded one Michelin star for Restaurant Cinco at the Hotel Das Stue in Berlin. A good starting point is duck'in donut, duck liver, chocolate and raspberry or maybe the Catalan charcuterie board. Other options worth looking at would be their charcoal oven dishes such as Iberian pork presa, sweet potatoes and demi glace or from the sea Turbot, potato, garlic, chilli and mushrooms. Desserts stay close to home with crema Catalana, egg, vanilla and red fruits or flam de cel, egg yolk, Chantilly, sugar and milk.
Spanish varietals dominate the excellent wine list and there's also signature cocktails like Correfoc, Les Sorts Jove, Lazzaroni ammaretto, Licor 43, Sereno La Vinyettta, lemon and Aztec chocolate.
