Review on The Ivy Castle View
The Ivy Castle View is a thoroughbred addition to Guildford, set in the heart of Surrey it continues Caprice Holdings ever increasing expansion of restaurants. Set in the upscale Tunsgate quarter, the restaurant is laid out over two floors featuring it's lavish signature interiors by Swedish-born designer Martin Brudnizki, with a nod to Guildford's historic heritage. A large al fresco terrace wraps around two sides of the main dining room on the first floor and guests can enjoy stunning views of medieval Guildford Castle and the Surrey Hills.
Executive Chef Sean Burbridge offers an all day dining experience, kicking off with breakfast through to catch-up lunches, afternoon teas and leisurely dinners. The expansive menu might start with oak smoked salmon, black pepper and lemon served with dark rye bread before moving on to a main course of their popular Ivy shepherd's pie with slow-braised lamb shoulder with beef and Wookey Hole Cheddar potato mash. Fish fans will enjoy the grilled sea bass fillet with smoked aubergine, tomato pesto and a tomato, olive, shallot and coriander dressing or from the Asian selection of the menu there's blackened cod fillet baked in a banana leaf with a soy and sesame marinade, citrus-pickled fennel, grilled broccoli, chilli and yuzu mayonnaise. Later, turn your attention to desserts like baked apple tart with vanilla ice cream and Calvados flambé or melting chocolate bombe with a vanilla ice cream
and honeycomb centre, paired with hot salted caramel sauce.
The wine list offers a good choice across the board and there's a lovely selection of cocktails.
