Review on The Stables Dining Room at The Bonnie Badger
Michelin-starred chef Tom Kitchin and his wife Michaela have launched a hotel named The Bonny Badger, located in the pretty seaside village of Gullane, it's just 20 miles east of Edinburgh. Surrounded by 22 golf courses including the famous Muirfield golf course, the building which dates back to 1836 has undergone an extensive refurbishment. Michaela Kitchin and Stephen Paterson of Burns Design, created the design having worked closely with property developer S1 Development.
Pride of place goes to The Stables Dining Room featuring original sand stone walls and classic wall panelling. There's a stunning ceiling with restored wooden rafters overhead illuminated with designer lighting, oak tables are set on wooden flooring and a grand fireplace takes centre stage.
Matthew Budge has been appointed Head Chef and he proposes a regularly changing menu emphasising Kitchin's 'nature to plate' ideology, supporting seasonal produce from trusted local producers and farmers. On offer there might be chicken liver parfait paired with pickled cabbage or from the sea, home-cured salmon and rye bread. Main courses pick up on grass fed Highland Wagyu burger and chips or The Bonnie Badger's Fish pie. Desserts bring on luscious delights such as sticky toffee pudding and vanilla ice cream or a chocolate and walnut brownie.
The Bonnie Badger has a choice of lovely individually designed bedrooms should you wish to extend your stay and explore the beautiful surrounding countryside further.
