Review on Camillo Benso
Camillo Benso named after an Italian statesmen is the first venture outside Milan from the F & C Group, founded by Antonio Fantini and Massimo Sanitŕ. Laid out over two floors in the former premises of Assuntra Madra, Camillo Benso is also an Italian restaurant. It's located on a corner site in prestigious Mayfair, just a stone's throw from New Bond Street and a couple of minutes walk from Hanover Square.
Inside it has a sleek décor in keeping with the area, there's backlit gold walls and emerald green velvet banquettes set against glossy tabletops displaying geometric patterns. Perch on an orange suede stool in the chic subterranean bar where can enjoy a dinner aperitif or a zingy cocktail. On Wednesday evenings guests can also enjoy live music.
Leading the kitchen is chef Luigi Esposito, who climbed the culinary ladder under acclaimed Michelin starred Italian chef Antonino Cannavacciuolo. Sourcing authentic ingredients direct from Italy, guests can look forward to well-priced traditional Italian cuisine from pastas, to pizzas or dishes like pan fried turbot with tomatoes, olives and capers or lamb cutlets with port sauce. Desserts are in the same vein with tiramisu, savoiardi dipped in coffee with mascarpone cheese or panna cotta, custard cream pudding with chocolate sauce or red fruits.
The wine list majors in Italian vineyards and there's also bespoke cocktails and Italian beers.
