Already operating the popular 99 Hanover Street bar on the same road, former Gleneagles Restaurant Manager Juan José Castillo Castro and his partner Vanessa Alfano have opened their first dining restaurant, aptly named 83 Hanover Street. Inside it incorporates a contemporary décor with rustic elements, featuring a roughly hewn stone wall decorated with a large gilt framed mirror. Tables are set with bright yellow banquette seating and bentwood bistro chairs on a modern wood floor and there's also counter seating at the bar.

The kitchen looks to small plates designed for sharing fusing first-class Scottish produce with Chilean flavours, taking inspiration from Juan's mother, Mercedes Castro's home cooking. Work your way through dishes like crispy chicken wings, corn puree and spicy ketchup or hangar steak, sweet potato chips served with blue cheese dressing and a Chilean condiment of pebre. Fish fans might opt for the whitebait, tarragon and aioli or pan-fried cod served with purple potato salad and heritage tomatoes. There's a choice of three desserts to finish such as tres leches donuts with rhubarb compote or blueberries and honey half baked cookie with vanilla ice cream.

The interesting wine list has been curated by former Restaurant Manager of Timberyard, Peter Brodei with a focus on natural wines, and there's also traditional cocktails with a twist and classic Pisco cocktails.
