Review on The Stratford Brasserie
The Stratford is a five star boutique hotel operated by developers Manhattan Loft Corporation, the same team behind St Pancras Renaissance Hotel and Chiltern Firehouse. Occupying the bottom six floors of the new 42-storey, 135-metre skyscraper, set to be the cultural hub of Queen Elizabeth Park, it has a seventh floor fine dining restaurant the Allegra, as well as the ground floor brasserie.
The Stratford Brasserie is a relaxed all-day venue with food served throughout the day. Bathed in lots of natural light from the full glass windows, it's decked out in a neutral palette with accents of gold. The triple-height lobby features a nine-metre high fireplace and a stunning installation named ‘Murmuration’ by designer Paul Cocksedge is displayed above the marble topped bar.
Leading the open kitchen is chef Ben Harrington, who previously earned his culinary stripes at Soho House, Gordon Ramsay at Claridge's and was Head chef of the Mews of Mayfair. He showcases a seasonal menu with European influences making excellent use of local produce. Starters pick up on beef tartare with egg yolk, pickles and beer crisps or from the sea there's seared Isle of Mull scallops. When it comes to main courses you might see The Stratford burger with raclette cheese, dill pickles and fries or pan-fried sea bass, crab, courgette and red pepper. To finish there's desserts like vanilla panna cotta, blackcurrant and tarragon, otherwise opt for the selection of British cheeses.
