Review on Le Pont de la Tour
Le Pont de la Tour is the jewel in the crown of the Butlers Wharf complex at Shad Thames, Le Pont de la Tour is a glamorous, elegant and stylish riverside rendezvous. During the day, the best views are from the waterfront terrace, where tables are at a premium for seductive al fresco meals. In the evening you can also watch the fairy lights twinkle along this sought-after stretch of the Thames.
As the name suggests, France is the theme here and the cooking has a pronounced accent. There are classic ideas – perhaps velouté of Brittany cauliflower with black truffles, foie gras terrine with Sauternes jelly or fillet of beef Rossini – but elsewhere the kitchen goes modern with seared scallops, creamed celeriac and saffron dressing or Gressingham duck with a butternut squash Tatin and walnut sauce. The Med also gets in on the act with Umbrian truffle and wild mushroom risotto, while desserts continue the same themes with mulled wine poached pear, chocolate fondant with pistachio ice cream and the like.
A light bar/brasserie menu of crustaceans, salads and grills is available throughout the day. If you a looking for a private bash with a difference, why not book the 'Table in the Cellar' where up to ten guests can sit around one large communal table amid 'grand crus' and vintage Champagnes.
The wine list itself is a treasure, shimmering with class and showing off its pedigree at every turn: France shines brightest, but there's a strong glimmer from Italy and Australia as well.
