Review on The Blue Door Bistro, The Montague on the Gardens
The Blue Door Bistro is set in the Montague a luxurious Bloomsbury townhouse overlooking the private gardens of the Bedford Estate, this swanky boutique hotel is within easy reach of the British Museum and Covent Garden. The restaurant has an informal bistro-style setting, light and airy at lunchtime, warm, cosy and candlelit by evening. This intimate dining room is surrounded on three sides by a mural depicting London circa 1849, together with rich mahogany panelling, mirrored glass and wrought-iron wall lights.
The menu delivers both modern British cuisine as well comfort dish classics seasoned with the freshest of herbs grown on site in the kitchen garden. Carefully crafted food in a relaxed setting might start with Dorset blue cheese and leek tart with grape chutney or chicken and cured ham terrine followed by Spring rump of lamb with rosemary fondant and vine tomatoes or sea trout with crushed new potatoes and celeriac purée. Desserts are equally inviting ideas like mango tart with passion fruit sorbet or vanilla cheesecake with caramelised banana.
Afternoon tea is available daily in the Conservatory which has fine views of the gardens. During the summer months the Terrace and Wood Deck which overlook the sculptures in the gardens of the Bedford Estate are very popular for al fresco lunches, dinners and traditional afternoon teas while sipping cocktails.
