Review on Malabar Junction
The discreet Tardis-like frontage of Malabar Junction gives little idea of the stately delights inside this authentic Indian restaurant on Great Russell Street. Once through the door, you see a rather grand, capacious dining room with a fountain in the centre, high ceilings and a large skylight. Palms and luxuriant greenery add a touch of colour, and you sit at wicker chairs.
The menu is a blend of familiar curry house stalwarts (dhansaks, kormas, biryanis and the like) but the most interesting options are the Keralan and South Indian specialities. Look for the choice of dosas (rice and lentil-flour pancakes), uthappam (a kind of pizza spiked with chillies), spinach vadia and – for those who like seafood – fish moilee (a rich and fiery stew).
Below stairs, with its own entrance, is a café/bar where you can get bargain-basement lunches at knockdown prices.
