Review on Redcoats Farmhouse Hotel
As you might expect from its name, Redcoats Farmhouse Hotel, just outside Hitchin, has a rustic 'old-world' feel, and exudes an ambience of warmth and homeliness. It occupies a fifteenth-century farmhouse in the countryside and offers the sort of traditional homely English welcome that is rarely found nowadays.
Despite its charmingly quaint demeanour, Redcoats provides excellent modern facilities and aims to offer something for everyone, whether you are looking to host a business function or simply want a quiet family meal.
The menu offers traditional English fare with a twist, and all food is freshly prepared using as much local and organic produce as possible: bread is baked daily on the premises, fresh fish is delivered almost every day, and local game appears in season. Quality is the kitchen's primary concern, with the phrase 'home-made' top of the agenda. To complement its food, Redcoats has a world-class wine cellar (their list of 'new discoveries' is always worth exploring).
The owners want to make guests feel comfortable and at home in their restaurant: in winter, when the log fires are burning, it's just about perfect.
