Review on Chino Latino
Like its siblings in Nottingham and Leeds, the London branch of sexy outfit Chino Latino is housed in the local Park Plaza Hotel Lambeth, in this case overlooking the Albert Embankment. Like its siblings it is also done out in an ultra-trendy mix of gun-metal greys, with dashes of crimson and cream, granite floors and a cooly backlit Latin cocktail bar.
The menu is dominated by dramatically presented pan-Asian sharing dishes, although the repertoire is fleshed out with some European crossovers, Latin influences and Mediterranean accents. Typically tantalising offerings might include pan-fried scallops with sweetcorn purée and XO sauce, seared beef carpaccio with orange cilandro, marinated lamb chops with pickled mooli, cauliflower purée and baby carrot, and pan-seared duck breast and foie gras with poached Nashi pear, yuzu miso and tempura hives. Desserts mostly veer to the west for the likes of warm layered banana cake with pistachio ice cream.
Lunchtime sees affordable bento boxes taking centre stage. Saké and Japanese Asahi beer suit the food; otherwise there are plenty of decent wines to choose from.
