Review on The Winter Garden Restaurant, The Landmark London
A spectacular glass atrium known as the Winter Garden is the main focus of things culinary in The Landmark London, a grand Victorian Gothic hotel close to Marylebone station. Executive chef Gary Klaner offers a range of menus, from ‘classical’ (shellfish bisque with vodka crème fraîche, honey-roast Gressingham duck breast with rosemary mash, crème brûlée) to ‘seasonal’ (seared diver scallops with pea foam, roast rump of lamb with basil mash and garlic jus, summer pudding).
Vegetarians have their own Winter Garden menu, offering a choice of, say, pan-fried terrine of goats’ cheese with beetroot and lime dressing, risotto of leeks and summer truffles with provençale vegetables, and Valrhona chocolate fondant to finish.
In the basement, the old Cellars Bar & Restaurant has recently been lavishly transformed into Twotwentytwo, a relaxed modish dining room where you can enjoy brasserie-style food along the lines of chicken Caesar salad, butternut squash risotto, ribeye steak with chips, and salmon fishcakes with saffron aïoli. The wine list ventures far and wide and the Landmark is a seductive venue for Champagne Sunday brunch.
