Review on Meejana
Following the success of their awarding winning Lebanese restaurant in the well-heeled Surrey town of Weybridge, Meejana opened a second venue on Old Brompton Road, just a short walk from Earl's Court. After an amazing refurbishment, a warm and elegant space with dark wood tables set against banquette seating and smart red chairs, walls are decorated with an eclectic mix of artwork and stylish mirrors. Service is notably knowledgeable and attentive and to cap it all on Saturday evenings, the piano playing in the background adds to the inviting ambience.
The kitchen offers a wide selection of hot and cold mezze which includes traditional dishes such as hummus, moutabbal and tabbouleh, as well as more exotic offerings like frogs' legs and lamb's tongue with garlic, lemon and olive oil or snails with coriander and butter sauce. Other options worth pursing are the traditional grills or their selection of family dishes which would be served in a typical Lebanon home, Kharouf Ouzi, lamb shank paired with ouzi rice, a delicately spiced rice with minced lamb and vegetable gravy or from the sea there's a seafood platter with saffron rice, consisting of salmon and scallops in saffron, dill and white wine. When it comes to desserts, there's an extravagant choice ranging from Baklawa, assorted layered pastries with mixed nuts including almonds, pistachios and pine kernels, to a classic crêpe suzette flambéed with caramelized sugar, butter, orange juice, zest, and Grand Marnier.
Accompanying the food is a well conceived wine list highlighting all the premiere growing regions, as well as renowned small producers, not forgetting Lebanese wines especially Château Heritage and Château Marsyas.
