Review on The Square
The Square on Mayfair's Bruton Street is a place where food, wine and service are taken incredibly seriously, but it is very friendly and informal. It is deemed to be a Brasserie rather than a restaurant and people can come dressed as they feel most comfortable. The place is very welcoming and the only music is talking and the sound of people enjoying fantastic food and wine. It was recently described by The Square Mealers as the power brokers of industry's meeting venue. Top business people discussing the business of the world.
At The Square they use 'the finest ingredients that money can buy'. They source from the individual farmer or fisherman. All their fish is line caught. Spring lamb comes initially from Somerset and they move north buying from a farm in Scotland as the summer unfolds. The menu changes 4 or 5 times per year on a seasonal basis so that the first growth or first offspring of various produce is always used. Some of the produce they take from other countries but again the same criteria, it must be the finest money can buy for example veal, pigeon and duck from France or Spain or Italy. Signature dishes which have been on the menu for years are Lasagne of crab with a shellfish cappuccino and basil, and as a main course herb crusted saddle of lamb with rosemary and shallot puree. It is refreshing to note that the menus are created so that whatever your diet or desire there is something for you on the menu so that you do not have to ask if they could do something else.
The wine list is amazing. 1500 wines approximately on the list, one of the most comprehensive in London with a team of 6 sommeliers. 60% of the wines are French but the list covers most regions of the world and they have sourced the best from Australia, Chile, New Zealand and so on.
