Review on FORK at Royal Berkshire Hotel
FORK restaurant is set in the Royal Berkshire Hotel, located on the outskirts of Ascot in the rural village of Sunninghill, it's a splendid red brick Queen Anne mansion surrounded by 15 acres of landscaped grounds, originally built for the Churchill family. The restaurant with lovely views of the garden can be found adjacent to the lobby, decked out in a palette of yellow, grey and black with dark oak tables set on modern light wood flooring. An eye-catching three-dimensional fork artwork takes centre place over the fireplace, and there's a magnificent bespoke wine display showcasing up to 220 bottles kept at variable temperatures.
The kitchen is in the capable hands of Jamie Brown who has worked under the tutelage of some of the world's finest chefs, including two Michelin starred Michael Wignall and Andrew Turner. The kitchen prides itself on sourcing fresh local ingredients which provide the basis for its regularly changing seasonal menu. To start you might opt for poached and oak smoked salmon, crushed soft boiled egg and caper salad before a main course of grilled poussin, bbq sweet corn, creamed polenta, shallot herb dressing or from the grill choose one of their tasty steaks served with thick onion rings and your choice of one side dish. To finish there's the enticing fairground plate, consisting of mini forms of toffee apple, doughnuts, ice cream cone, marshmallows, candyfloss, sweet popcorn and dipping sauce or almond slice, marinated raspberries and amaretto ice cream.
