Review on Thai Square

The flagship of the Thai Square group is in a prime spot overlooking one of London's most famous landmarks. Once an imperious embassy building it is now filled with antique Thai Buddhas, specially made terracotta friezes and stone carvings from the homeland.

Satays, soups, stir fries and curries all feature on the extensive 90-item menu, but it's worth homing in on the list of specials and 'exclusive' dishes like chu chee lobster, larb pla (deep-fried sea bass with ground rice, fish sauce and lime juice) and stewed duck with steamed vegetables. There's also a fully formed menu for vegetarians.

Below the restaurant is a lively club where you can dance the night away after your meal. There are currently eight branches of Thai Square around the capital (check their website for details), as well as a branch in Windsor.

Soft-Shell Crab with Mango Salad [G,C,F,N,*]
lightly battered soft-shell crab accompanied with refreshing shredded Thai green mango salad
and distinctive flavour from roasted coconut flakes, cashew nuts and and fried shallots.

Second Course
with Monsoon Valley Colombard (125ml)
Prawn Summer Rolls [C,F,N]
Plump rice paper rolls packed with prawns, light vermicelli noodles, carrots,
cucumber and fresh herbs, served with sweet coriander, chilli dipping and crushed cashew nuts.

Third Course
with Monsoon Valley Shiraz (125ml)
Duck with Red Chilli Paste served with Coconut Rice [G,C,S,*]
Wok-fried slices of duck breast with authentic Thai herbs, fresh peppercorns, basil, bamboo shoots,
aubergine, chillies and red curry paste in fresh coconut milk.

Dessert
