Review on Meson Don Felipe
One of London's best known tapas bars and a fun-loving institution on the South Bank, Meson Don Felipe continues to draw more than its share of noisy 'olés' from its regulars. It stands opposite the Young Vic and regularly gets packed to the gunnels with theatregoers as well as Waterloo commuters.
Inside it is severely cramped and you'll be lucky to get a stool at the bar - let alone a seat - but the place buzzes: there's even a Spanish guitarist on hand to supply just the right degree of frenzied strumming. Blood-red walls and ceilings, Iberian prints and brightly painted plates set the tone, and the menu trawls its way through patatas bravas, cod croquettes with garlic mayo, chorizo in red wine, tortillas, prawns with garlic and chilli oil and - of course - paella. The whole experience is topped up with a cracking choice of Spanish wines and sherries.
