Review on UNI Restaurant
Just a short stroll from Victoria Station in Belgravia, UNI was regarded as one of the most notable restaurant openings in 2014. Taking its name from the Japanese word for sea urchin, the split-level restaurant has been designed by the critically acclaimed Andrew Martin. It's a swanky affair with a ground floor marble sushi bar and white leather stools, overlooked by the theatre of the open kitchen. Down the glass staircase takes you to the more intimate dining area, with cosy brown leather banquette seating, set around small wooden tables. Gold leaf on the ceiling and innovative light shades made from miniature red bottles create soft ambient lighting.
The kitchen showcases a menu of incredibly fresh and flavourful choices using masterful preparation, offering a fusion of Peruvian and Japanese cuisine, known as Nikkei. Peru is home to a large Japanese community, which together with their flourishing fishing industry in the Pacific has resulted in the fusion of the two cultures and the distinctive cuisine, Nikkei.
Diners can expect a selection of grilled meats and fish, such as succulent Wagyu beef, rock salt and chilli, Miso Black Cod with anticucho sauce, as well as first-class sushi and sashimi, tempura and maki. To complement the concise menu there's sake and a well crafted cocktail list.
