Review on Ivy Market Grill
The Ivy Market Grill launched in November 2014, the younger sibling to The Ivy, an iconic restaurant in the heart of theatreland that is very popular with celebrities. Located on Henrietta Street in Covent Garden in a 19th century building that was once home to Lloyds Bank and Pizza Hut, the interiors have been created by the acclaimed Martin Brudnizki Design Studio to reflect this industrial era.
Spread over two floors overlooking the Actors' Church and the piazza, there's a café, bar, restaurant and a large terrace perfect for people watching and al fresco dining. The restaurant features wood wall panelling up to picture rail height, inset with orange leather panels, with an antique steel and pewter bar adorned with old-fashioned brass lamps taking centre stage. There's a mix of swanky curved banquettes, benches, bar stools and chairs, furnished in British racing green leather, set against polished dark wood tables.
An all-day venue that runs right through from breakfast to dinner, via morning coffee, weekend brunch, lunches and afternoon tea, ex-Petrus chef Sean Burbidge is at the helm in the kitchen and he proposes a menu with a modern European accent, alongside classic British signature dishes made famous by The Ivy. On offer on the all day menu you could opt for ham hock terrine, pressed ham hock terrine with curried celeriac remoulade or maybe tuna carpaccio, raw sliced tuna with sesame dressing and shredded white radish. Main courses pick up on lobster thermidor, whole lobster gratinated with cheese sauce and roast tomatoes or from the land there's rack of lamb, herb crusted lamb with aubergine, tomato and thyme jus. Bringing up the rear are desserts in the shape of dark treacle tart served with clotted cream ice cream and Jersey pouring cream or strawberry shortcake sundae, warm poached strawberries, vanilla ice cream, shortcake, crème chantilly and crushed meringue.
There's an excellent wine list to complement the menu together with craft beers and tasty cocktails.
