Review on M Threadneedle Street
M Grill is the highly anticipated launch by Ex Gaucho Managing Director Martin Williams, situated in Threadneedle Street, a few minutes walk from the Bank of England. The venue features industrial chic interiors by the acclaimed international Rene Dekker Design and art by Miles Aldridge. It's an overtly swish and sleek place subtly decked out with neutral colours and soft tones, with statement lights by Martin Eden and CTO. Housing two restaurants, the Grill where the kitchen will serve black breed kobe Grade 10, the M Raw restaurant featuring small plates, a destination cocktail bar, a wine tasting room, a secret den, together with private dining and event spaces.
Executive Chef is Michael Reid, a former executive chef of Gaucho Restaurants, he presents a menu that focuses on the best cuts of steak from the USA, Argentina, France, South Africa, Japan and Australia. Global flavours and influences appear in their dishes, witness a starter of scallops and bacon, tiraditos and tartare, apple jelly and bacon crumble or Boerwors, South African sausage with mini corn muffin and tomato chutney. Follow on with a main course of Josper grilled Southern African Sirloin on the Bone, 28 day dry aged and served with chips or Usda Prime Short Ribs, finished on the grill, accompanied by apple slaw and sweet potato.
The food is matched by a well-curated wine list, together with bespoke cocktails mixed with artistic flair.
