Review on José Tapas Bar
José Pizarro's self-named tapas and sherry bar located on vibrant Bermondsey Street, just a short walk from London Bridge was his first solo venture after his role of co-founder and Executive chef of Tapas Brindas. Occupying a tiny corner spot with just four tables, the bustling venue is inspired by the lively tapas bars in the villages of Andalucía. Perch on the stools at the tiled bar and watch the dishes being prepared in the open kitchen, while sipping a glass of Spanish sherry or wine.
Dishes change daily, listed on the blackboards above the bar, with ingredients carefully sourced locally, many from nearby Borough Market. Expect tasty offerings in the shape of chorizo Ibérico or Ibérico Pork Fillet, while lovers of fish might choose mackerel with mussels and tomato sauce. For a sweet finish there's rice pudding or tarta de Santiago.
To accompany the food there's an excellent choice of Spanish wine and sherries from small independent producers, together with well known establishments. The atmosphere is buzzy and wait staff are friendly and knowledgeable.
