Review on Canto Corvino
Restaurateurs, Andrew and Ninai Zarach Manicomio of the popular Manicomio restaurants located in Chelsea and the City have headed East to Spitalfields for their third venture, Cano Corvino. Opening its doors in September 2015, the 140-cover all-day modern Italian restaurant and cocktail bar, takes it name Canto Corvino from the song of the raven, a reference to Artillery Lane's former moniker of Raven's Row.
The warm interiors have been created by acclaimed B3 Designers with an industrial vibe, reflecting the warehouse aesthetic and trading heritage of the Spitalfields area. Featuring exposed brick walls, there's an open kitchen with a stylish pattern of triangular cut stones to the front, allowing diners to take in all the action of the chefs at work. As well as intimate banquette seating, there's oak top stained tables with brushed brass trims in the main dining area.
Executive chef Tom Salt has devised a modern menu with the a la carte option divided into seven distinct sections: Stuzzichini, nibbles, Salumi, cured meats sourced from small artisan Italian producers, Cudo, raw plates, Pasta/Zuppa, homemade pasta and soup, Al Forno, dishes that have been baked in the oven, Josper, food cooked on the Josper grill and Dolci, desserts to finish.
To start you might opt for duck tortelli with borlotti beans and sausage or from the sea there's red mullet bucantni with anchovy pangrattato. Main courses showcase pork T bone, onion squash, salsa verde and burnt plums or monkfish, mussels, chilli, broccoli and fregola. Close the show with a classic Tiramisù or the salted chocolate delizia.
Backing up the food Canto Corvino has an extensive all-Italian wine list sourced from specially selected boutique producers, together with signature cocktails such as Romeo, gin, elderflower, lime juice, fresh kiwi, cucumber and apple juice.
