Review on Yashin Ocean House
Yashin Ocean House is situated in a largely residential area on the corner of Old Brompton Road and Cranley Mews in fashionable South Kensington. It follows the success of a sibling restaurant called Yashin Sushi in Kensington, the brainchild of two highly regarded Master Sushi Chefs, former Nobu Head Chef Yasuhiro Mineno and Shinya Ikeda who led the kitchen at Yumi.
This latest enterprise focuses on head to tail dining where every part of the fish is used including the roe, flesh and skin. Set in stylishly restored stables the contemporary dining room is a smart affair with exposed brick walls and Edwardian tiling. The most sought after seats in the house are the bentwood bar stools that surround the turquoise ceramic topped sushi counter, where you can watch the theatre of the chefs in action. Open your account with Scottish salmon with green chilli sauce or cod cheek with chilli amazu, followed by the house special of Head to Tail chargrilled fish of the day and finishing with a dessert of green tea ice cream.
There's an excellent wine list to complement the food together with a first-class sake menu, sake based cocktails and Japanese whiskies.
