Review on Claude Bosi at Bibendum
Having closed his two-starred Michelin restaurant Hibiscus in 2016, Claude Bosi at the Bibendum was launched in March 2017. Occupying the South Kensington's iconic Michelin building that was once home to the British headquarters of the famous tyre company, this latest incarnation is a collaboration with acclaimed veteran restaurateur Sir Terence Conran.
The oyster and seafood bar has been retained on the ground floor, just the place for a spot of 'celeb spotting' - especially if you sit at one of the marble-topped tables in the foyer, looking out onto Fulham Road. Supremely fresh oysters, crustacea, meze and salads are the mainstays here. Upstairs is the fine dining restaurant where Claude will work his culinary magic in the large central state-of-the-art open kitchen. The light and airy dining room with crisp linen laid tables and striking original curvaceous Conran chairs are overlooked by an arched conservatory glass roof, and of course the stunning massive arched stained-glass window, depicting the M-man himself puffing on a big cigar.
Claude produces a palette of subtle and elegant flavours, showcasing creative reinterpretations of timeless French classics alongside modern British favourites. Open proceedings with French veal brain with sauce gribiche or fish fans might opt for the Cornish cock crab, Elderflower and Cornish sea herbs. Main courses move into the realms of suckling pig 'porchetta' with middle eastern flavours or there's Cornish turbot 'grenobloise'. To finish desserts offer an enticing mix of flavours with chocolate soufflé paired with Indonesian basil ice cream or a sweet olive oil millefeuille, vanilla and mango ripple.
The impressive wine list has been compiled by Claude's friend Isabelle Legeron MW, founder of Raw Wine emphasising wine from the regions of Rhône and Burgundy. The restaurant was awarded two prestigious Michelin stars in the 2018 edition of the Guide.
