Review on Suvlaki
Enjoy authentic Greek food at Suvlaki in the heart of Soho in a lively and fun setting. Tucked away on a narrow side street, it is easily distinguishable by its blue Greek graffiti exterior. Designed by Greek born, London-based designer Afroditi of the award winning AfroditiKrassa studio, it features half fluted columns behind long banquette seating with comfy cushions and marble table tops.
The kitchen is led by well known Greek Chef, TV personality and author Elias Mamalakis, who makes excellent use of the robata-style dishes for authentic Greek street food in a time-honoured tradition. There's much to enjoy in the shape of grilled meats skewers and stuffed pittas, witness Gloucester Old Spot pork with tomato, tzatziki and red onion or Mount Olympus wild boar sausage with slaw and smoked aubergine. Fish fans should look to their signature dishes such as prawn suvlaki with lemon, dill and chilli flakes or the mussels casserole with white wine, feta and samphire. As for desserts, think chocolate biscuit cake with homemade Greek coffee ice cream or 'Samon to Soho' cheesecake with wild honey, candied ginger and orange meringue.
To accompany the food there's a concise Greek wine list and beers from Greek micro-breweries.
