Review on Ham
Ham restaurant was launched in February 2018 on West End Lane in the heart of West Hampstead. Billed as a neighbourhood restaurant, it's name comes from the Anglo-Saxon word for home. It's a collaboration between owners Rose Tuckey and David Houten together with Australian born chef Matt Osborne, whose CV includes restaurants such as two-Michelin starred The Ledbury, Salon in Brixton and more recently as Head Chef at ToastED in East Dulwich.
Designed by Rory Macpherson of Play Associate's, the décor looks eminently chic with pale cream interiors mixed with exposed brick walls. Marble topped tables are set with cream chairs on pale wood chevron flooring, and velvet covered banquette seating runs along the edge of the restaurant.
The kitchen works carefully with trusted artisan suppliers for a brunch and lunch menu that runs from 10.00am in the morning through until 3.00pm in the afternoon. In the evening they offer a concise daily changing dinner menu kicking off with starters in the shape of Devon crab, macadamia nuts, cucumber and avocado or from the land Norfolk quail, artichokes, pearl barley and kombu. Follow on with Wiltshire Horn lamb, calcots, salted ricotta and anchovy or maybe Delica pumpkin and buttermilk tart, basil and yuzu. To finish there's buttermilk panna cotta, walnuts and roasted pear or cheeses from Mons Cheesemongers and Neals Yard Dairy.
Waiting staff ensure that a pleasing relaxed atmosphere prevails, and there's a carefully compiled wine list to complement the dishes, together with craft beer and house cocktails.
