Review on Meraki Restaurant
Meraki is a contemporary Greek restaurant, a recent addition to the Waney family's stable of restaurants that amongst others includes Zuma, Roka and Oblix. Set in the heart of Fitzrovia, the restaurant boasts two entrances on Great Titchfield Street and Foley Street, each with their own al-fresco terraces. The spacious restaurant designed by Sagrada studios with Meher Waney is a sleek affair within a neutral palette, with contrasting sofa banquettes in pale and deep blues set against organic elm wood tables. Floor-to-ceiling windows make a light and airy space, and olive and eucalyptus trees on the two terraces create a Mediterranean vibe.
Taking the helm of the open kitchen is chef Athinagoras Kostakos, who presents a seasonally changing modern Greek menu with the finest Mediterranean ingredients sourced direct from Greece. The cold mezze section of the menu offers seafood dishes in the shape of octopus carpaccio with lemon oil dressing and pickled onion or seabass tartare, lemon oil dressing, shiso and herring caviar. The hot mezze has souvlakia, chicken thighs glazed in an open fire grill or lamb kebab with Meraki's secret spiced recipe, tomato and hummus sauce. Elsewhere there's a signature dish of beef fillet kebab with avocado tzatziki and broccoli stems or a sharing dish of lobster 'giouvetsi' whole lobster and orzo pasta. When it comes to desserts, who could resist their loukoumades Greek doughnuts with Mastic ice cream and three different toppings.
The food is supported by an extensive wine list mainly from Greek independent producers, as well as some of the country's craft beers, alongside cocktails like Alexander the Great, Metaxa 12, chamomile syrup, lime juice and lemon tonic.
