Review on Mei Ume
Mei Ume is just one of the restaurants within the luxurious Four Seasons Hotel in Trinity Square, a magnificent colonnaded 1920's building formerly the headquarters of the Port of London Authority, it overlooks Tower Bridge and the Tower of London. A sumptuously decorated room with high ceilings and pillars, the design has been created by the legendary Hong Kong-based design studio AB Concept's Ed Ng and Terence Ngan, and it picked up the gong for Best UK Restaurant award in 2018. The dining room with smart leather chairs set against dark wood tables is embellished with stunning gilded artworks and hand-painted panels with silk embroidery.
Uniquely serving both Chinese and Japanese cuisine, the restaurant also takes its name from the Chinese and Japanese terms for plum blossom. Head Chef Tony Truong, who previously held the same position at the esteemed Royal China group leads the Chinese kitchen, where he serves a variety of authentic and modern dishes including the signature Mei Ume Peking Duck, served according to tradition across two courses. Sushi and sashimi are created by former Zuma and Sake no Hana chef Mun Seok Choi who presents his tempting morsels at the Ume Bar, alongside well-crafted cocktails. Derrick Chen is the chef who expertly prepares dim sum having climbed the culinary ladder at restaurants such as Hakkasan and Yauatcha.
