Review on Kerridge's Bar & Grill
Tom Kerridge who owns the highly regarded two Michelin-starred Buckinghamshire pub, The Hand and Flower has opened his first restaurant in London. Simply named Kerridge Bar & Grill, it presides in the luxury Corinthia London Hotel, a past British Government building, located on a triangular site between Trafalgar Square and the Thames Embankment.
Formerly home to Massimo's, the high-ceilinged room has been given a suitably swanky makeover by David Collins Studio, with two large bronze sculptures by his wife, Beth Cullen Kerridge taking centre stage. It's a marbled space with rich burgundy horseshoe leather banquettes and dark green walls festooned with pieces of contemporary art. Along the walls of the restaurant there's fridges showcasing hanging meat supplied by Tom's own butchers, The Butcher's Tap in Marlow.
Kerridge has installed Nick Beardshaw to run the kitchen, a talented chef who trained at the The Castle in Taunton and Midsummer House in Cambridge before joining The Hand and Flowers in 2010, and winning a Michelin star in 2017.
The kitchen is home to an ornate rostisserie grill where they grill nearly half of the main menu, which opens up with starters like Creedy Carver duck liver parfait paired with apple and rose chutney, honey cider jelly and toasted brioche or from the sea, glazed omelette 'Lobster Thermidor'. Among the repertoire of main courses you might find deep fried halibut and chips with pease pudding, tartare and Matson spiced sauce or for meat lovers, there's Cotswold lamb cutlet and belly, black cabbage puree and stuffed parsnip. Desserts are upmarket ideas like chestnut praline profiterole with salted coffee caramel and roasted chestnut ice cream or Yorkshire rhubarb tartlet with whipped vanilla custard and candied hazelnuts.
The extensive wine list encompasses all the great wine growing regions across the globe including England, and the cocktail list ensures that the diverse taste of all cocktail connoisseurs will be met.
