Gezellig is a wine focused European restaurant housed in the refurbished Grade II listed Holborn Town Hall. The name has its roots in the Dutch word that means 'an atmosphere, which allows good times to happen'. Laid out over two floors with smart button-backed leather banquettes and walnut tables set on wooden flooring, there's a dedicated bar on the mezzanine level with comfy wing-back chairs, overlooking the restaurant.

Gezellig has the backing of respected restaurateur Rebecca Mascarenhas proprietor of Home SW15 in Putney, as well as Sonny's Kitchen and Michelin-starred London restaurants Elystan Street and Kitchen W8, which she co-owns with chef Philip Howard. The concept is a collaboration between sommelier Wieteke Teppema and chef Graham Long, with James Comyn leading front of house, all of whom have previously worked at Michelin-starred restaurants.

Diners can look forward to hearty European dishes along the lines of pot roast turnip, duck heart, livers and sorrel or from the sea, cured sea trout, crispy oyster, charred and pickled cucumber and verbena. Among the main courses there's herb crusted lamb, roasted tomato, fennel, capers and mint or for fish lovers poached plaice, Comté cheese crust, soft leeks, Jersey Royals and buttermilk.

The wine list is a majestic 350-bin tome knowledgeably garnered from all corners of the globe, with about 20 options available by the glass.
