Review on Monsieur Le Duck
Following a successful six months residency in Spitalfields, Monsieur Le Duck has found a permanent site in Clerkenwell. As the name suggests the restaurant focuses on duck inspired dishes sourced from Gascony in South-West France. Spread out over two floors with a large central ground floor tiled-bar, it has a laid back vibe reflecting the douceur de vivre, the sweetness of living that is synonymous with this area of France. Decorated with duck inspired memorabilia, including the restaurant's logo of a moustached duck dressed in breton and beret, carrying a baguette under its arm, the restaurant is light and airy with painted brick walls and rustic furniture set on stripped back flooring.
The concise menu kicks off with confit duck wing on celeriac remoulade before moving on to magret de canard, pan roasted or chargrilled moulard duck breast served medium rare. There's also a vegetarian option in the shape of a vegetarian tart provencal or for fish fans moules marinières, mussels in a white wine, shallot and cream broth. Desserts also stay close to home with a crème brûlée or tartes aux pommes.
The French wine list is a suitable accompaniment to the food alongside signature cocktails and aperitifs.
