Review on Madera at Treehouse London
The former Saint George's Hotel situated next to the BBC's Broadcasting House on Langham Place has been relaunched by the American Treehouse hotel group, located a few minutes walk from Oxford street tube. Their showpiece restaurant is Madera, an upscale Mexican restaurant which already operates Toca Madera in Hollywood and Arizona.
Occupying the top two floors of Treehouse London, Madera has stunning panoramic views across the city from the floor-to-ceiling windows. Filled with hanging and potted plants, bamboo furniture is set on hardwood floors and hanging bulbs are covered in wicker shades. Head upstairs to the Nest, the top floor cocktail bar with 360-degree views of London and a terrace which will be a magnet during summer months.
Open all day for breakfast, lunch and dinner Madera offers a modern and organic take on Mexican cuisine featuring a raw bar, taqueria, starters, salads, pan plano a Mexican style flat bread and specialties served on lava stones. Kick start proceedings with empanadas oaxaca, organic free-range chicken, jalapeno cabbage, manchego cheese, pickled onion and chipotle crema or calamari frito, chipotle-seasoned wild-caught calamari, spicy jalapeno coriander and citrys avocado sauce. Follow on with Josper-smoked salmon, wild-caught salmon, sauteed kale, habanero mango salsa and coriander lime rice or mole de olla, their signature slow baked organic free-range achiote chicken breast in oaxacan mole negro with pickled onion, roasted sesame seeds, micro coriander and house-made corn tortillas.
There's a carefully curated wine list together with an organic, ingredient-driven drinks list.
