Review on WOOD Chester
Following the success of WOOD Manchester, MasterChef 2015 winner Simon Wood has brought his winning act to the new boutique Hotel Indigo in the heart of historic Chester. Ideally placed to enjoy the surrounding attractions, it's within a mile of Chester Racecourse and a 15-minute walk to Grosvenor Park and Chester Cathedral. Designed by architects Franklin Ellis, the interiors pay homage to the local historic buildings, racecourse and famous clock tower. The contemporary restaurant is a sleek affair with a relaxed ambience, featuring curved tan leather banquettes in cosy booths and an open theatre kitchen which includes a Josper oven.
Among the repertoire of starters you might find rabbit with carrot, Parma ham and prunes or maybe mackerel with beetroot, goat's curd, orange and watercress. Main courses usher in assiette of lamb, Bosworth ash, Cheshire new potato, and lavender honey or from the sea monkfish, Wye Valley asparagus, baby courgette and white beetroot. Chocolate, espresso and malted caramel makes a memorable finish to the meal, or otherwise opt for the zingy citrus tutti-frutti.
There's a carefully curated wine list that can also be paired to match the dishes.
